FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • As a result of the nationwide shortage in law enforcement and EMS personnel, agencies are unable to send their personnel to training courses for greater than one week. Requests for a shorter, compressed curriculum has led to the necessity of a compressed course.
  • ISTM has now refreshed, contemporized and reduced its lecture material to ensure students still receive the most current POST certified information in a one-week format, while also maintaining over 20 hours of skills and scenario training.

Unless otherwise advised, all classes start each morning at 8:00 a.m.

If you cancel your seat in the class prior 30 days before the class begins there is a refund minus a $400 administrative fee. If you cancel your seat in the class less than 30 days before the class begins there is no refund and the tuition is applied to the next class. If you cancel your seat in the class the second time the tuition is no longer applied to the next class.

It is up to each individual student to obtain the grant funding to attend the school if you are eligible to do so. This is accomplished by contacting the training coordinator for your Law Enforcement, Fire or EMS agency. You will need to complete the necessary forms they will provide you. ISTM does not get facilitate in the process or act on your behalf.

ISTM will provide a handgun (Glock 17) for any student who does not have one or chooses not to bring their own personal or Department assigned weapon.

No.  But if you are comfortable with brining your own equipment, we would not discourage it.

Good question….. During our one-week ATM course you are permitted to carry a knife and your personal handgun.  Keep in mind all scenario training is conducted in a sterile environment and so no weapons of any type are permitted during these periods.  Feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

TEMS courses that provide lecture and/or skills-based training are beneficial to personnel who are only seeking tactical medicine skills training or exercises in Rescue Task Force (RTF) training.  Most often, these courses are attended by fire department and ambulance personnel.  A more comprehensive course would include at a minimum, skills and scenario-based training in a multi-repetition format.

Unfortunately, No.  As a result of the current California assault rifle ban and the fact that many of ISTM students are non-law enforcement personnel and unable to utilize any long gun, ISTM is no longer permitted to utilize our M4 rifles during any weapons course of fire.

We recommend that you be at least a First Responder or an EMT as many of the tactical medicine procedures (including some Advanced Life Support procedures) require a working background in EMS.

Yes, As per Commission of Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) you can miss 10% of the class and still be eligible to graduate and receive tour training certificate. Our strong recommendation is that you do not miss any portion of the course.

Each ATM course provides 40 hours of training.
