The International School of Tactical Medicine is a law enforcement agency based program located at the Palm Springs Police Department Training Center, in Palm Springs, California. We offer a dynamic and complete Tactical Medicine educational training program. Since the inception of the program in 1996 more than 1300 graduates from over 650 different agencies have completed the program.

Clients include the US Military,U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Secret Service, Department of Defense Contractors and many state and local Law Enforcement, Fire Department and EMS agencies. Our clients also include many agencies from Canada, Europe and around the world. (See client list)

The ISTM faculty is comprised of physicians and law-enforcement professionals. All physicians are residency trained-board certified in their specialty, published authors, hold faculty appointments at teaching hospitals and medical schools and are engaged in the full time practice of emergency medicine, surgery and critical care medicine. In addition, they are tactically trained and sworn law enforcement officers and serve as tactical physicians on SWAT teams. The law-enforcement faculty are experienced police officers that are firearms and tactical instructors.

Our facility provides unlimited logistical support of all courses in a secure law-enforcement environment with classrooms, range facilities and unique locations for scenario training.

The arid desert climate of Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley provides the unique opportunity for year round training.

Our tactical medicine school is a law-enforcement agency based program and offers a 2-week 80 hours plus comprehensive didactic tactical medicine curriculum, which uniquely integrates both medical and tactical education, hands on training, firearms instruction and personalized attention. Learning the concepts of tactical medicine is enhanced by scenario based teaching. To ensure the maximum learning benefit both modules should be taken consecutively

Basic Tactics & Medicine (BTM) Module A is open to EMTs Paramedics, Navy Corpsman, Army Medics, Air Force PJs, Nurses, Physician Assistants, Physicians and Surgeons that are actively involved in providing emergency medical support for military and law enforcement special operations teams. It is also an ideal program for those individuals that want to receive a strong educational foundation in tactical medicine prior to establishing a new team.

Advanced Tactic & Medicine (ATM) Module B is the second half of the two week program and provides additional intensive training and skills in both tactics and advanced medical care for those serious about their commitment to providing the best medical care possible for their agency and team members. The two week program covers the core content of tactical medicine.

The International School of Tactical Medicine is dedicated to fulfilling the needs of military, federal, state, county and local Law Enforcement Fire and EMS agencies as well as Department of Defense contractors to adequately train their medical support personnel for special operations in an efficient cost effective manner.

Our Mission is dedicated to one fundamental goal: Officer Survival. For that reason our objective is to teach our students the fundamentals of tactical operations in conjunction with the integration and application of operational emergency medicine. With this body of knowledge and skills, graduates will be able to effectively integrate with a tactical team or security detail as a tactically safe provider. What you learn during the training could save your life or the lives of others.
